What to Expect at Your First Visit at Leahy Family Dentistry
Being well-prepared for your appointment will ensure that Doctor Leahy has all of the needed information to provide the best possible care for you. It also will help relieve any unnecessary anxiety you may be feeling. Be sure to take a moment and think of any dental concerns you may be experiencing prior to your visit so we can be sure to address them. Jot them down if you may forget! Your first visit for a comprehensive dental examination begins with an assessment of your medical and dental history, including discussing with you any concerns you may have about your teeth, gums, jaw joints, or grinding/snoring/ sleeping issues. Feeling anxious? We can discuss that too, as well as how to manage your treatment. Doctor Leahy will do a thorough examination of your head and neck, feeling around the jaw joints and jaw bones and inspecting your mouth. We will take any appropriate dental x-rays for diagnostics and then develop a custom dental treatment plan to address your needs and concerns. Usually, we are able to complete your dental cleaning during this visit, removing surface staining as well as plaque and tartar, leaving your smile beautiful and healthy! For others, we may recommend dental scaling and root planing treatments when there is concern over periodontal disease. We have blankets on hand to take the chill off, as well as some of the best music or conversation you've ever heard at your dental visit! Don't be offended if we offer suggestions to improve your oral hygiene regimen- it is because we care about your oral and overall health, and want to make sure you are getting the best advice in town! When you are finished, we treat you to a nice warm scented towel and goody bag. (Children will head off to the playroom if there's still a sibling or parent to wait on, or to our treasure chest!)
